House painter that preps a door right

So as a house painter contractor there are several advantages of prepping doors the correct way for painting and then the disadvantages of not prepping doors the correct way. I been involved in the residential painting industry in Gainesville, fl  for many years now and one of the beautiful things about  fresh new paint on the exterior of a home is that nice accent front door. We all know as your driving through an neighborhood one of the things that pop out at you if done correctly  is that beautiful shiny front door. Well in this blog I’m going to explain to you my trials, errors and experience of getting an ugly, faded front door to an amazing shiny beautiful door. I’m going to explain the prepping process, application, what to avoid and the correct products. So that if you have a faded, paint chipping door that you are embarrassed of, you can just give CorsPaint a call and we will get the issue resolved for you. Now lets begin with the most important part the prepping process. First doors are very oily, greasy and of course dirty one of the first things that needs to be done is the cleaning and degreasing process. Why clean and degrease because if you paint directly over the grease, dirt or grime it will cause the paint not to bond properly and if the paint is not bonding then it will never reach the curing stages and hardened like it is designed to do so. Then you will experience blistering and paint peeling so yes clean clean clean your doors! Next you have prep process two is the sanding stage. Sand your doors after you have cleaned them properly, sanding also gives the paint something to bite to and sanding also removes the existing sheen so that you can create a new sheen. If you paint over an existing sheen without sanding it will cause the paint to sag, drip and run and that can make a very ugly door especially if the paint runs dry then your adding more unnecessary work so just do it right the first time. As for sanding you don’t want to use and sand paper that stronger than 220 grit. Sand paper stronger that 220 then you will most likely be removing the existing paint and you don’t want to do that either. Keep in mind no matter what you do, your never going to be able to sand out existing brush marks without actually stripping the doors completely but that is another topic we will discuss in the next blog which is door stripping. So there you have it! I will see you our next blog topic. Please if you would like me to write about something you would like to know about in the painting industry then leave us a comment.
