Summer is almost here and you know what that means! Barbecues, pool parties, pre-season football, and all the outdoor activities you can handle. We can hardly wait another day. If you’re ready for all this, but every time you step outside you can see the old, dull cracked, and chipped paint on your home’s exterior you may be wondering when it’s time to start considering a new exterior paint job.
It’s not an easy answer. There are a lot of things that can contribute to the best time to paint outside. Weather, temperature, humidity, and wind can all play a role in how long the project takes and how the end result looks.
Paint is in Season
It makes sense to consider the seasons in deciding when to paint. Choosing the direct middle of summer or winter is not the best option. Not only will the weather make it difficult for the team doing the painting, but the extreme heat or cold will affect the paint drying process. Ideal painting conditions are usually between 65 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Higher than that and you can risk the paint cracking as it dries. A problem you were trying to fix in the first place! If it is too cold the paint can have trouble adhering and dry leaving paint dripping down your home. In Florida we don’t have nearly the change in seasons as other places do so we have more good times of the year to paint. Early summer, spring, and fall are all good options to plan your painting project.
Whether to Paint in this Weather
Planning for the day you paint makes perfect sense. It shouldn’t be overly humid or windy and it certainly should not be raining. All of these can affect the drying process which usually can take several hours but can take up to a day in some cases. It is worth noting that painting the entirety of your home’s exterior can often take multiple days. Planning days in advance will ensure a smooth painting process. Rainy days right before your painting professionals come to your home may mean it’s too humid. In the same vein, knowing it will rain in the middle of your scheduled painting time can delay your project and at worst have negative effects on what is supposed to be a beautiful newly painted home.
