What’s Trending: Interior & Exterior Colors for Spring 2021

We’ve spent a lot of time inside our homes over the last 12 months. The walls of our homes were quickly the walls of our office, our gym, and our daycare. Because of the sudden increase in time spent at home, we’ve all had to make adjustments, whether that means a more comfortable office chair or a new lunchtime routine. We’ve all been reminded that our homes need to be a safe, soothing space.

While a new office chair can do wonders for your back, it’s a fairly small element of your home. Adding a new coat of paint, on the other hand, not only gives you a project to fill your newfound spare-time, but it can drastically change the mood of your home. The warmer spring weather provides a great opportunity to take on a painting project — open your windows and cover the baseboards, it’s time for something fresh!

There are a few prominent trends that have emerged for both interior and exterior painting projects this spring.

Interiors are all about soothing hues.

Your home is your safe space, so it should feel soothing and calm (and ready to shelter you from the crazy outside world)! To do accomplish this, there are a few general colors to turn to — calming blues, subtle greens, and natural neutrals.

Think about the feeling that overwhelms you when starring out at an ocean or up at a clear blue sky. Serene, right? Channel that when you’re picking out a paint sample! You’ll be surprised how a coat of blue can turn what was a hectic room into your favorite relaxing area. Look at your kitchen, living room, or laundry room — which spaces need a dose of zen?

Greens, similarly to those cool blues, have a similar effect on a room. A soft green (think sage!) can turn a boring room into a relaxing one while keeping a playful, creative element. This is a great option for a bedroom, your office, or a bathroom. Creative juices don’t always mean the brightest colors, a more subtle approach can do the trick just as well, bringing a “great outdoors” vibe into your home.

Neutrals are a classic favorite that many are deciding to finally go for this spring. Sure, a project is fun, but you’re also looking for a color that your family won’t outgrow in a year. It’s all about sustainability. Chocolatey browns and beige tones are seeing an increase in use, warming up each home that adapts the neutral look.

The lighter the exterior, the better.

Individuals who are taking on an exterior paint job in 2021 are saying one thing very clearly — lighten it up! We’re seeing a surplus of creamy whites, pale grays, and accents of pale blue and green.

The lighter exteriors, whether white or pale gray, lighten up a home’s appearance while refreshing the entire look of the property. When your home’s exterior paint is on the light side, it can often look much cleaner (even though we, of course, know that it’s probably equally clean as darker colors).

The same goal is accomplished with pale blue and green accents — the addition of calming, lighter colors not only changes up a traditional accent, but it softens the home’s entire appearance. Accents, in general, are seeing a lot of fun trends this spring, both in the colors chosen and the style of accent. These elements are a great way to take on a paint project without having to paint the entirety of your home. Look into widening your accents, changing the color, or having fun with shutters!

No matter what color you choose, a fresh coat of paint goes a long way.

At CorsPaint, we’re firm believers in the power of a paint job. You deserve a home that you love being in! New paint colors can be the change that makes your home that safe space.
