Follow the steps below when choosing the appropriate drop cloths
Poly sheeting – The least expensive, is waterproof. It’s slippery underfoot but works well to cover furniture.
Canvas – will last longest but it’s not waterproof; water-base latex paint will will soak through it.
Paper/poly has paper lined with a waterproof poly backing. It costs less than canvas and is less slippery than pure poly.
When doing interior painting, I recommend using both canvas and poly sheeting. The correct way to use both is to place the poly sheeting down on surface first then lay the canvas drop cloths over the plastic sheeting therefore the surface want be slippery and if the latex paint were to leak through the canvas the poly sheeting under the canvas will catch the paint.
